Quebec Profanity - A Guide

To those asking about how to swear in Quebecois. While this is not completely accurate , it does give a legitamate example on the style of swearing and some legitamate words they use while swearing at you.
I love saying “tabernouche!” instead of “tabernac!” because people give me the best looks.
It’s kind of like saying “oh fiddlesticks!” instead of saying “fuck!”

Although all the ones translated as “son-of-a-bitch” I’d feel were more equivalent to “fuck,” really. Mileage varies!
When I went back to Quebec after living in Lebanon, and started 4th grade, I kept hearing people say “esti” more or less like “drat.” I had NO CLUE what this meant, because it sounded NOTHING like “hostie,” which, frankly, as a non-Catholic 8 year old speaking more Arabic than French, I probably also wouldn’t have known the meaning of, and even if I had, it’s not like I had the idiom for understanding that “communion wafer” was OMG SO BAD NEVER SAY IT. So I started repeating it like it meant “drat” and said it in front of a teacher and it was basically the worst thing I ever did there so far as they were concerned.
My school was called St-Paul. These nuances were lost on me. Perils of a secular upbringing.

The distinction between GIRL gamers and GAMER girl.
Girl Gamers are the ones that look for attention. The ones that use the idea of them being a “rare” human being for female empowerment. The ones that use it to “belong” or to be “wanted.”
Gamer Girls are the ones that know that you’re playing Link when you play Legend of Zelda. The ones that know that Samus Aran is one of the earlier female video game protagonist. The ones that actually know what NES stands for and the ones that doesn’t ONLY play Call of Duty. We are the ones that know that it doesn’t matter whether you’re a male or female; just play the damn game objectively/strategically and be in it for the win!
The distinction is created with what word is emphasized. With girl coming after gamer in the name “GAMER GIRL” then you’re emphasizing that this person is a GAMER that just so happen to be a woman.
You may be reading this wondering — well who fucking cares? And honestly.. I DO. I’m a gamer girl that doesn’t WANT to be pooled in with Girl Gamers. I take pride in my hobby, in what I like to do and what I like to spend endless hours of my life thinking about and doing. I eventually want to make a living out of this hobby but it’s hard to start on that when you’re not being taken seriously.

The more I read this rant, the more perplexed I am by what you’re trying to achieve. What exactly are you doing here if you’re not trying to get attention for being a special kind of girl who is *tee-hee* not like those other girls? It seems to me that you’re doing exactly what you’re slamming others for doing.
Also, learn to English. In “gamer girl”, “girl” is the noun and “gamer” modifies it. When you say “gamer girl”, you are putting girl first, grammatically. Like if you say “I’m a night person”, you are not claiming to be the night itself with some few personish qualities, but a person who happens to relate in some way to night.
“Girl gamer” is a gamer (noun) who happens to be female (adjective). In reality, though, they’re pretty much interchangeable.
Anyway, I’m not going to list the entirety of my gaming resume here because that would just be validating your ignorance, but suffice it to say that it goes back to before the time when Samus’s gender was a secret you had to beat the game to know and the NES came with a robot because U.S. retailers were more likely to stock something that looked like a toy than a console after Atari crashed the market. In the end, though, that doesn’t matter.
If all you care about first, last, and foremost is that people are gamers, then it shouldn’t fucking matter if they’re playing Call of Duty or Zelda or Plants versus freaking Zombies. It’s all games. Somebody who’s really into the Sims isn’t less of a gamer than you are because of it.
You want to make a living related to gaming and you want to be taken seriously even though you’re a woman? Then stop tearing the shit out of other women who game.

she could be bigender in which case she would be nonbinary but still honestly identify herself as a girl
i know thats not a real thing that would happen in the comic but its a way to interpret it
i dont know if its true to say shes been consistently implied? to be nonbinary? i thought the only thing that suggested that was theorising on the “uranian” thing & that Complacency of the Learned having the snakes on the title implies some kind of link to UU, and Calmasis is apparently nonbinary? but i wouldnt say thats the same as her being consistently implied to have a nonbinary gender (although I was rooting for that) (and its still not impossible!!)

pardon for butting in, but in the speculation process behind UU, there’s also a misconception that “uranian” means a category, as in a non-binary identification.
it’s more a loosely-defined 19th century word for “gay.”
it’s not completely free of gender-related things, i think? it’s taken to mean “female psyche in male body,” and the term was used to explain male homosexual attraction. (it extended to gay women later.)
