It’s estimated that -as the normal course of events for a person with a normally fecund uterus having regular unprotected PIV sex with a partner with a normal sperm count - roughly 50% of conceptions in week four post ovulation fail to yield a pregnancy because the embryo fails to implant correctly or completely in the uterine wall (too hot, too cold to acidic, to alkaline, poor blood supply at implantation site, the reasons are myriad) or fails to produce/produce enough chronic gonadotrophin to interrupt menstruation. Menstruation continues as normal and the person experiencing menstruation never knows that a possible pregnancy might have occurred - in fact, if the culprit is not enough gonadotrophin, the person wouldn’t even have tested positive on an OTC pregnancy test, despite the presence of an embryo in the uterus.
